Amritsar, July 14
Rolling back its order regarding putting an end to the contract system for the midday meal in the city, the Education Department has asked the government schools to continue with the present system.
Earlier, the department had issued a letter to the schools asking them to discontinue with the contractual system of midday meal from July 16 onwards and start preparing meals on their premises. The schools were asked to maintain proper record.
As per the present system, the food is being outsourced for the students by various non-government organisations, which are to provide food in the morning to schools under a contract system. The step had been taken to improve the quality of food. The schools located in rural areas are already getting meal cooked on their premises.
Deputy District Education Officer Rekha Mahajan said, “I received the revised order this morning. The schools will have to continue with their respective contracts till further notice.”
