The delegation of 18 students from the UK paid obeisance at the Golden Temple on Monday. They spent time knowing about the spiritual and historic significance of the place. The delegation, led by coordinator Varinder Singh, also went to watch the Beating Retreat ceremony, the Wagah-Attari Joint Check Post, Ram Tirth and Jallianwala Bagh memorial.

Students, who hail from different backgrounds, enjoyed their day connecting with their ancestry and history. “The programme titled ‘Connect with your roots’ initiated by Punjab Chief Minister will bring youngsters crom across the globe, hailing from Punjabi background, to know about their cultural roots. It will focus on giving them insight into the history and rich legacy of Punjab and also make them familiar about the traditions,” said Varinder.

Most the students, who belonged to second or third generation of Punjabi NRIs, expressed happiness over the opportunity to learn about the Punjab that they only had an idea about.
