Karamjit Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, has said that at least four persons, who were separated from their families, were reunited due to the efforts of the DLSA.
He said DLSA member-secretary Harpreet Kaur Jeewan came across a woman, Preeti, at the GMC, all family members of whom were injured in the accident. The DLSA team was told that Preeti’s three-year-old child was missing.
Later, as the DLSA team visited a private hospital to meet the injured, they came to know about a child whose relatives believed that his parents had died. The team found it was Preet’s child.
When the mother at the Government Medical College (GMC) was shown the photograph of the child, she recognised him.
Harpreet Kaur said it was a very emotional moment when the child, upon seeing his mother, clung to her and stopped weeping. “He fell asleep in his mother’s arms within a few minutes,” she said.
The team also found another 10-month-old child, whom some relatives had taken home presuming that his parents had died. Later, the child with a head injury was brought to the Government Medical College, the DLSA team took him in custody as per the Juvenile Justice Act. The team also deputed a female volunteer for the care of the child.
