Farmers gherao bank officials in Tarn Taran

Farmers under the banner of the Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Punjab, gheraoed officials of Punjab Agriculture Development Bank (PADB), who had gone to auction land of farmers, who failed to pay loans.

Kanwalpreet Singh Pannun, state convener of the committee, said bank officials had issued notices to 10 farmers of Gharka, Karmunwala and other villages to reach Government High School, Karmunwala, along with their land records on Wednesday.

Pannu said the state government had promised during the Assembly elections it would waive loans of farmers after coming to power.

Farmers gheraoed officials, which were let off following the assurance by the bank manager that their land would not be auctioned.
