The Agriculture Department is taking the help of granthis at gurdwaras in rural areas to dissuade farmers from burning crop residue in fields.

Granthis are making announcements from gurdwaras against stubble burning while citing the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.

The officials stated that while the community was celebrating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, it becomes imperative that his teachings too are followed.

Bhupinder Singh Dhillon, Deputy Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, said that environment conservation was an integral part of teachings of Sikh gurus and people must try to follow these teachings.
