With the city all set to celebrate the Independence Day, the police have made appropriate security arrangements. The movement of people on key routes has been restricted. Cops of several police stations carried out a flag march and made people aware of the security concerns. Special checking is being conducted at the railway station, bus stand and airport.

Six companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the city and its periphery.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security) Gaurav Toora said, “We have three tier foolproof security arrangements. The periphery and inner circles are fully secured with the deployment of additional troops. Teams have been conducting flag marches and night patrolling. The residents should celebrate the day without any fear.”

The ADCP said that there was no specific threat but the police were on high alert. To avert any protest or demonstration on the Independence Day, separate teams have been constituted.

Meanwhile, joint teams of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a day long checking at the railway station.

Balbir Singh, SHO, Government Railway Police, said, “We have been keeping vigil at all the entry points of the railway station. Checking of luggage is being conducted. Our teams are also checking the trains. Jawans are alert and capable to deal with any situation.”
