Four take away car, Rs 26K at gunpoint

Four unidentified armed men forcibly took away a car from four persons near Nangal village that comes under the Jandiala Guru police station here on Tuesday.

The victim, Gurdial Singh, along with his friends, was returning from Chandigarh in a Hyundai Creta car when the suspects, who were travelling in another car, intercepted them and took away their vehicle at gunpoint.

A case under Sections 379-B (2) of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against unidentified persons.

Gurdial, a resident of Ganda Singh Colony on the Tarn Taran road, told the police that he, along with Balbir Singh, Gursahib Singh and Beant Singh of Nangali village, had gone to Chandigarh for some work.

Gurdial said he had gone to Nangli village to drop them. “Near Nangli village around 10.30 pm, armed youth in a car intercepted us and fired a couple of gunshots in the air. They asked me to hand over the key of the car. They also threatened us to kill if I did not follow their instructions,” Gurdial added. He said after that, he handed over the key to them.

The suspects also took away Rs26,000 from them before escaping with the car.

Amritsar SSP (Rural) Parampal Singh said the police had started an investigation into the incident. He said they were looking for CCTV footage of the suspects to get some clue. The SSP said they would be arrested soon.
