The rural police have made another arrest in connection with the spying case in which an Army man was arrested for spying for Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) and drug smugglers. With the latest arrest, the police have nabbed four persons till now. More arrests are likely to be made to expose the entire nexus.
The accused has been identified as Hatish Kumar, a shawl trader. He was produced in a court on Wednesday which sent him to one day police remand. According to the police, he was allegedly being paid drug money through hawala. Further investigation is under way, the police said.
Till now, the police have arrested two Jawans, Malkit Singh of Muhawa village and Princedeep Singh of Master Avenue at Ghanupur Kale, both associated with 6 Rashtriya Rifles, posted in the Kiren sector of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir. The third arrest is of drug smuggler Gajjan Singh has also arrested.
Attari DSP Arun Sharma, while confirming the arrest, said that during the interrogation of Malkit Singh, the police found several contact numbers reportedly of drug smugglers active at the Indo-Pakistan border. A Pakistani SIM card has also been recovered from Gajjan Singh.
“The police have till now seized around Rs 7-lakh drug money,” he said, adding that another SIM has been recovered from Hatish Kumar, who too had contact numbers of several suspicious elements.
