Amritsar, December 5

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has suspended an employee of the electrical department on charges of harassment of employees working on daily wages.

The move came after the varsity had referred the case to its vigilance department. The daily wagers, in a written complaint to vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, had alleged that an electrician was extracting Rs 1,000 from daily wagers for continued employment. He had been threatening to fire them, they alleged.

The employees also submitted a video to the authorities, in which the electrician was seen taking money. However, the electrician concerned had refuted all allegations and termed all claims baseless and personally motivated. He had said the money that he accepted from a daily wager was loaned by him to the employee, earlier. The electrician in question, on his suspension, said; “I have received a suspension order. I do not have anything to say on the issue. The allegations are baseless. I have been framed. They have damaged my vehicle as well. The money I accepted was a loan. It was not an act of corruption.”
