Amritsar, May 18

The enrolment drive of the government schools has managed to increase the number of admissions this time as compared to that of the last year. In Class VI-XII, the number has gone up from 96,997 to 1,03,013.

With the commence of the new academic session, the Education Department has been running ‘Each One Bring One’ drive under which people are encouraged to bring students.

District Education Officer (DEO), Secondary, Salwinder Singh Samra attributes it to the change in residents’ perception of the department. “For the last six months, the department has revamped its working. A number of changes have been introduced. School infrastructure has been improved and teachers are taking extra classes. Better results have established the credibility of teachers. The staff have also put in efforts for the success of the drive,” he said.

The drive has been designed to attract more and more students to take admissions to government schools. Staff members, principals and teachers are taking part in the drive. The teachers have been instructed to hold door-to-door activities, announcement at public places, meeting elderly people and others. They have also urged students to inform their neighbours about the schools.

Some of the schools have also put up special desks to enroll students. The drive will conclude by the end of this month.
