Govt takes back new role from XEN

AMRITSAR: The Department of Local Government rolled back its order of appointing Executive Engineer Tilak Raj the in-charge of water supply and sewerage of North and East constituencies here on Tuesday.

Amritsar, July 11

The Department of Local Government rolled back its order of appointing Executive Engineer Tilak Raj the in-charge of water supply and sewerage of North and East constituencies here on Tuesday.

The MC had appointed Tilk Raj as in-charge of the water supply and sewerage in operation and maintenance (O&M) wing of the MC on April 23. He was looking after North and East constituencies independently.

Superintending Engineer (O&M) Anurag Mahajan had filed a petition with the High Court against the appointment of Tilak Raj. In his petition, Mahajan claimed that Tilak Raj had a degree with distance education. Mahajan contended that one with distance education degree was not eligible for promotion to the post of superintending engineer. The charge given to Tilak Raj was the responsibility of an superintending engineer.

So DP Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Local Government Department, rolled back the order regarding Tilak Raj’s new role.

Tilak Raj, Executive Engineer, O&M, said, “I have a degree obtained through distance education programme and it is valid for promotion. I will appeal against the decision. The work of water supply and sewerage has been allocated to enhance the efficiency.”

Anurag Mahajan, SE, O&M, said the appointment of Executive Engineer Tilak Raj as in-charge of water supply and sewerage was illegal, so I had filed the petition. The department has revoked its order finally, he added. — TNS
