Gurpurb of Guru Ram Das celebrated with devotion

AMRITSAR: A sea of devotees on Tuesday paid obeisance at the Golden Temple to celebrate the Gurpurb of Sri Guru Ram Das, Sikhs’ fourth Guru and founder of Amritsar.

A sea of devotees on Tuesday paid obeisance at the Golden Temple to celebrate the Gurpurb of Sri Guru Ram Das, Sikhs’ fourth Guru and founder of Amritsar.

The SGPC in association with devotees illuminated the Golden Temple with one lakh earthen lamps on the Gurpurb night. Earthen lamps filled with desi ghee were placed around the holy sarovar.

The entire Golden Temple complex was beautifully decorated with flowers, its cost was borne by Iqbal Singh of Mumbai. Sangat also took a holy dip and listened to the Gurbani Kirtan. Dedicated to Gurpurb, bhog of Akhand Path was performed at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.

Jalaun (a show of splendour), showcasing precious and historic artefacts were displayed for sangat at Harmandar Sahib, Akal Takht and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai.

Shiromani Committee honoured 52 different professionals and equal number of students, who came first in different religious competitions, conducted by the SGPC, during a programme at Gurdwara Manji Sahib.

Meanwhile, with the active cooperation of SGPC, Gurpurb was celebrated at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport. Celebrations commenced with the recitation of Sukhmani Sahib by a Granthi of Sri Harmandar Sahib followed by the Hazuri Kirtani Jatha of Sri Darbar Sahib. Singh sahib Gurminder Singh shed light on the life and contribution of Guru ji for the mankind and nature.

Meanwhile, educational institutes also celebrated the Gurpurb on their premises on Tuesday.

Apart from airport, railway station, the ISBT and other public places were beautifully decked up.
