Intoxicant pills, SIM card seized from 2 jail inmates

AMRITSAR: The authorities have confiscated 24 intoxicant tablets and a SIM from two inmates during a search at the Central Jail here.

The authorities have confiscated 24 intoxicant tablets and a SIM from two inmates during a search at the Central Jail here. The checking was being conducted when they returned the jail from a local court.

The inmates have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident Sehdon village, and Punjab Singh, a resident of Maddi Gor Singh village in Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran.

The jail authorities informed the police about the development and said the inmates were convicted and they had gone to the court for hearing.

They said when the inmates returned, a checking was being conducted by the jail staff. According to information, 24 intoxicant tablets and a SIM card of Airtel were recovered from Sukhwinder Singh. During investigation, Sukhwinder said he got the same from Punjab Singh.

A case under Sections 21, 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them. 

The police said they were trying to ascertain how they manage to sneak in the intoxicant tablets and SIM card inside the jail.

Two held with 1,077 intoxicant tablets

The police have arrested two persons with 1,077 intoxicant tablets. The suspects have been identified as Lal Singh of Kot Baba Deep Singh and Ratandeep Singh of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar. 

The Investigating officer (IO), Lakhbir Singh, said the suspects were arrested from near the Raminder Singh Bolaria memorial park, known as Skatari Bagh. 

They were produced in the court, which sent them to two-day police remand. The IO said the police were trying to ascertain the source of the contraband.
