Following delay in the release of funds under the post-matric scholarship, the state government has asked colleges and universities in the state to extend the last date of depositing admission fee for SC students.

MLA Amritsar (West) Raj Kumar Verka informed about it as he met the agitating students of the SC category. The students explained the financial hardships being faced by them to the MLA.

The government has asked the institutions to extend the date of depositing admission fee till funds are transferred into the accounts of the students as per the letter issues by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

A number of students reached the circuit house and narrated their problems on Friday morning. Rajini, a student at a local college, said, “This scholarship is very important for us. The financial condition of my family is such that I cannot afford to pay fee. The college wants us to pay the admission fee in order to pursue our studies.”

Another student, Vivek Kumar, pursuing BTech, said, “Whenever I seek money from my father to deposit fee, he gets tensed. Everything was smooth until last year. It will also impact the education of my younger brother.”

Students were also accompanied by their parents. All of them expressed happiness and joy of relief with announcement. The MLA, while talking to mediapersons, said, “I had written a letter to the Chief Minister expressing concern over the dropout rate due to the non-release of the scholarship. Students, who cannot afford to pay fee, are forced to leave their education. Taking a note of the situation, the CM office has issued the orders.”
