Amritsar: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Jhabal unit, took out a march against drug abuse in Thathi Sohal village in Tarn Taran on Thursday.



Amritsar: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Jhabal unit, took out a march against drug abuse in Thathi Sohal village in Tarn Taran on Thursday. They met villagers and discussed the issue. Party leader Davinder Sohal said there was a need for boycott of drug peddlers. Pirthipal Singh Marimegha said volunteers had been keeping a watch on suspicious persons selling drugs and they were encouraging people to inform the police in case they come across any peddler.

Addicts block road

Batala: Around two dozen addicts held a protest in front of the Batala Civil Hospital, blocking the Batala-Jalandhar road for two hours over the unavailability of medicines on Thursday. Since the recent crackdown on drug traders, addicts are flocking to de-addiction centres due to unavailability of habit-forming drugs. The protesters raised slogans against the hospital administration. The police arrived on the scene and assured the addicts that the hospital was making arrangements to procure medicines from other sources. Officiating SMO Lalit Mohan confirmed the paucity of medicines.

Woman harassed

Tarn Taran: Tarsem Singh, a resident of Manakpur village, 30 km from here, has been booked for allegedly harassing a woman of the same village. Victim Kulbir Kaur, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the accused had been harassing her only to get her removed from the post of cook from the village school. The issue was investigated by an SP-rank official, following which a case was registered under Sections 354, 506 and 509 of the IPC. OC

Dowry case 

Tarn Taran: Harjit Singh of Amritsar has been booked for “harassing” his wife for dowry. The victim, Baljinder Kaur of Lauhka, said she was married to the accused on May 14, 2017. She alleged that the accused had been harassing her for dowry. According to her, he misappropriated the articles that she had brought at the time of her marriage. OC
