Learning a lesson from the previous “mismanaged” House meeting, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has started preparing for the upcoming General House meeting, which is expected in September.
Earlier, the Opposition and ruling party councillors had criticised the MC for not providing them with copies of the agenda before the meeting on June 8. The MC had passed 61 supplementary proposals without distributing agenda copies. The index of the agenda was shared with councillors through WhatsApp.
The staff at the agenda branch informed the Mayor and MC Commissioner that they didn’t have the facility to make the copies of agenda.
After receiving flak from councillors and the media, the MC had decided to buy a photostat machine to get copies of documents. Now, the MC bought the same but it is not operational. “The date of General House meeting has not been decided yet, but the preparation of proposals has been started for the smooth functioning of the House,” said a junior official of the MC.
Officials said councillors didn’t provide the required details about the development projects on time. This lead to a delay in the preparation of proposals.
Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu has been meeting councillors of different Assembly constituencies. He invited the councillors to provide details of the development works in their respective areas so the MC staff mention the same in the agenda on time.
