Despite the claims of Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has failed to start the reconstruction of Majitha road which was dug for laying sewage lines around seven months back. On September 24, Rintu had assured the residents of Majitha road that the work of sewerage board had been completed and the reconstruction of road would be started soon.
There is no development till date. The sewerage board had dug the Majitha road to lay sewerage line under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project in March. The board took more than six month to install a small stretch of the sewerage. The road connects hundreds of villages and Majitha town to the holy city. Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, one of major hospitals of the city, is also located here. The movement of ambulances has also been affected for the past few months. People in large numbers commute on the road every day. School buses ferry students to the city through the same road.
Hardev Singh, a city resident, said, “The government had dug the road around seven months ago, but it has not been recarpeted till date. The dust troubles drivers. Besides, the stretch offers a bumpy ride. The government should complete the project and recarpet the road.” He urged the civic body to take up the construction work at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu assured that the recarpeting of road would start soon.
