Amritsar, April 19

NGO Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM), in a communiqué to the state government, has stated that nothing concrete has been done under the Smart City project allocated about two years ago.

AVM president, Prof Mohan Singh said, “Big promises of elevating infrastructure of the city up to the level of global standard remain undelivered.”

“City residents get information on Smart City projects through newspaper reports that projects, like installations of LED lights, streamlining of traffic, management of garbage, construction of parking at Kairon Market, fish market and at old Sabji Mandi, have started, but nothing is visible,” he said. Instead of easing traffic at Bhandari Bridge, smart city officials have made it more complicated as elevated road to Hall Gate has been blocked and commuters have to cover a long distance to reach Hall Gate from elevated road, he said.

AVM patron Kulwant Singh Ankhi said,“After taking over the charge of maintenance of green belt by the Smart City authorities, it has been fully ignored. Sprinkling water on these plants has been abandoned.” — TNS
