Parking contracts to continue till polls

AMRITSAR: The MC has postponed the auction of parking lots till the end of election process as the model code of conduct is in force.

Amritsar, April 17

The MC has postponed the auction of parking lots till the end of election process as the model code of conduct is in force. MC officials stated that they couldn’t conduct auction due to it so they decided to let the existing contractors continue till the end of the poll process. The contractors have to submit the fee as per their current contract.

The MC has only five parking lots in Kairon Market, Macchi Mandi, Bhandari Bridge parking, Guru Nanak Bhawan parking and Kachari Chowk parking.

Earlier, in the absence of proper check, parking contractors were found involved in several misconducts. After highlighting the issue, Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu had streamlined the parking lots.

However, the MC has failed to address the issue of overcharging by the contractors. The civic body is collecting a hefty amount from the parking lots. — TNS
