The increasing stray dog menace has left the residents worried in the city. Now, they have started shooing away canines from their areas, especially after Mohindra Colony incident wherein stray dogs tried to maul a child, leaving him injured. It has become a debatable issue among people on social media platforms and in public gatherings.

The incident was captured in a CCTV camera the footage of which was widely circulated on social media platforms. After the incident, a few more videos of people trying to shoo away stray dogs from their areas in the city have also been circulated.

The MC had earmarked Rs 1 crore in its annual budget for the project. However, with the local body making promises for the control of canine population for long and then failing to deliver on the same has irked residents. “No wonder people are worried and they are concerned about their children after the incident in Mohindra Colony. Dog lovers are concerned about the stray dogs, but something needs to be done,” says Kashmir Kaur, a resident of Rani Ka Bagh.

Meanwhile, an MC official, wishing not to be named, said the Mayor had conducted a meeting with experts on the issue and the matter was under consideration.“We are making a concrete plan. Earlier, a plan was made and work was also started but it couldn’t materialise due to several reasons,” he added.
