People forced to drink contaminated water

The Public Health Department has not been serious about providing potable water to the residents of Naushehra Pannuan village. Chaudhriwala and Nandpur villages are also part of the Naushehra Pannuan village. The three villages have a population of more than 15,000 persons. The residents of these three villages are getting water from the system installed at Desuwal locality. As many as 300 families are also getting water from the same source, official sources said. In our area potable water is found mixed with dirty sewer. The reason is the parallel placement of both the lines. Also the joints of water lines are found leaking. The residents told that no official ever visited the point of leakage to redress the problem of the residents. Kuldeep Singh, a village resident, who has been performing the duty of tubewell operator as a selfless activist, confirmed that the complaint of the villagers was genuine. He said the residents were getting water only for one-and-a- half hour in the morning. The Public Health Department has handed over the water supply system to the gram panchayat. There was no watchman for the look after of the tubewell. The site of the water tank has been converted into a jungle.

Rajat Gopal , XEN, Public Health Department, said an official (JE) was deputed to visit the site to repair the leakage of the pipes.

The residents alleged that the JE failed to locate the leakage point, which indicates the seriousness of the department.

Smell of dead cow irks residents

Residents of Aladinpur village are perturbed over the foul smell emanating from a dead cow lying on the highway passing through the village for a week. Nirmal Singh, a former sarpanch of the village, said no official noticed it. Satish Vohra, SDO, National Highways, said the matter was not in his notice. He said the maintenance work of the NH had been handed over to a private company. He added that he was going to do the needful through officials of the company.
