Done with their poll canvassing, political leaders on Sunday were out to exercise their voting right besides urging people to do the same

Several political bigwigs, along with their family members, turned up at their respective booths to vote.

Meanwhile, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majitha, after casting his vote at booth number 36 in Majitha town, took a potshot at the Congress. Talking to reporters, he said, “Sensing defeat, a no-holds-barred attrition war has started between Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his Cabinet colleague Navjot Singh Sidhu to pass the buck to each other.”

He said there was a trust deficit between the two leaders and they were hurling accusations at each other with unprecedented velocity as if they were from different parties. He said Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s directions too were not adhered to. “Rahul had repeatedly said that Sam Pitroda should apologise for his utterances on 1984 riots, but he cared two hoots,” he said.

The CM has no qualms as he took oath on the Holy Gutka in the last Assembly elections and misled the people of Punjab, he said. According to Majithia, the state Congress didn’t fulfill its poll promises. “Unemployment is rampant, farm loans haven’t been waived and the rate of suicide has seen an alarming rise,” he said.

Referring to Sidhu’s comment that his wife was not a stepney, Majithia said, “I condemn the language he used for his wife which should not be used by any person for women.”

Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik went to cast his vote at the excise and taxation office at the court road.

After a long spell of election campaigning across the country, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was in the town. He and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu went to cast their votes.

Congress candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla and his family members too turned up at a polling booth in Swami Satyanand College of Management and Technology, airport road.

Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu polled his vote at the polling booth number 84 set up in Saint Sai School, Majitha road.
