AMRITSAR: The deplorable condition of the Putlighar-Islamabad road (near Fatak No.

Amritsar, October 18

The deplorable condition of the Putlighar-Islamabad road (near Fatak No. 23) has been troubling the commuters. Residents complain that whenever the boom barrier blocks the crossing, long queues of vehicles are witnessed on both sides of the crossing. “Potholed roads slow down the speed of vehicles, which takes even longer time for the traffic to pass,” said Davinder Singh, a shopkeeper of the area. He said the dust displaced by the vehicles also creates problem for nearby residents.

A large number of encroachments on roadsides by shopkeepers and vegetable sellers, especially towards Putlighar Chowk, results in frequent traffic jams. “The stretch is the busiest and most encroached upon in the entire city,” said another resident Kewal Kumar. He added that due to the traffic problem, the traders’ business had been affected. — TNS
