The SAD-BJP workers burnt effigies of Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, demanding action against the couple for the train mishap at Jora Phatak on Friday. The protest march was carried out from Golden Avenue Ramtalai to Jora Phatak where the SAD-BJP workers were stopped by the police from reaching the accident spot.
Demanding the couple’s resignation, senior leaders, including Anil Joshi and Rakesh Gill, said in a joint statement that the Chief Minister had instituted a tailor-made inquiry with the sole aim of giving a clean chit to the culprits. “We demand a judicial inquiry under the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The families of the victims should be given Rs 1 each as compensation besides government jobs,” the protesters said.
Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina came down heavily upon the Congress government in the state. He said no responsibility had been fixed even three days after after the mishap and the organisers of the Dasehra event were being ‘protected’ by the Congress.
Chhina added that Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Najot Kaur, who were present at the Dasehra function, had absolved themselves. He demanded resignation of Navjot Singh Sidhu, and registration of a murder case against Navjot Kaur Sidhu and Mithu Madan, organiser of the function.
“The videos surfacing on social media justify the allegation against Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu for protecting Mithu, who should be taken into custody. She is quoted in media saying Mithu is in regular touch with her after the incident,” he claimed.
