PSPCL detects 291 power theft cases

AMRITSAR: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), during a special campaign to check power thefts in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur, has found 291 erring consumers and it has imposed a fine of Rs32.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), during a special campaign to check power thefts in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur, has found 291 erring consumers and it has imposed a fine of Rs32.91 lakh on them.

Power thefts, especially in rural areas, are a common sight. Teams of the PSPCL inspected 4,610 power connections. Of these, the teams found irregularities in 291 connections.

Sandeep Kumar Sood, Chief Engineer, PSPCL border zone, said, “Around 1,532 power connections were checked in Tarn Taran. Of these, irregularities were found in 80 connections. A fine of Rs7.0 lakh has been slapped. Similarly, 1,570 connections were checked in the sub-urban circle. Of these, power theft cases were reported in 57 connections. We have imposed a penalty of Rs10.12 lakh.”

Sood said as many as 923 connections were checked in Gurdaspur. Of these, irregularities were found in 131 connections, he added.

The PSPCL officer said a fine of Rs8.18 lakh was imposed on the offenders.

“In the Amritsar urban circle, a total of 585 connections were checked and irregularities were detected in 23 connections. Therefore, a fine of Rs7.61 lakh was imposed on the culprits,” he said.

Sood added that inspections will remain continue in future as well.
