Harjinder Singh (55), a resident of the local town, was found murdered on Sunday morning on the premises of Seven Star restaurant where he worked as a security guard.
The police are hunting for restaurant manager Umesh Kumar, his two nephews — Rajnish and Gulshan — and some unidentified persons for the murder. The police said the accused murdered the guard only to take away valuables from the restaurant.
Rajnish and Gulshan are said to have taken away a .12 bore rifle and 10 live cartridges of the deceased, besides a car (PB-46-N-0017) of the restaurant owner, Harjinder Singh Dhillon, namesake of the deceased.
Inspector Chander Bhushan, Station House Officer (SHO), said the accused attacked Harjinder Singh with baseball bats. They hit Harjinder on his head, killing him on the spot.
The SHO said the accused also tried to break open the almirahs in the restaurant. None of the accused have been arrested so far. Sections 302, 380, 120-B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code have been slapped on them.
