Amritsar, July 9
The SGPC has volunteered to serve food for free to the drug addiction centres in Amritsar. The initiative was taken on the request of the district administration. The food will be served to drug addicts, who have been admitted to various Out-Patient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centres and their relatives.
Deputy Commissioner KS Sangha said he had requested the SGPC about it. “If religious organisations and NGOs joined hands with us, it will be of great help in our mission to fight the drug menace,” he said.
The youth who have been hooked to drugs have been voluntarily approaching the rehabilitation centres. “With constant efforts of the police and the administration, the supply chain of drug has been cut. We have been running nine OOAT centres in Amritsar, which are fully equipped to treat the patients,” he added. — TNS
