The SGPC on Sunday started free bus service for outstation devotees and ‘chhabeel’ for the devotees. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal flagged off the special bus from Bhai Gurdas Hall to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport to ferry devotees to the Golden Temple.

Similarly, a special ‘chabeel’ has been set up in the Heritage Street that leads to the shrine. Talking to mediapersons, Longowal said, “Keeping in view the convenience of the devotees heading towards the Golden Temple, these two services have been started.”

He said five buses would run on a regular basis free of cost. These buses will be used to bring people from other states, who wish to visit the Golden Temple but can’t foot the travelling expenses.

“Everyone want to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple at least once in his or her lifetime. If we are informed about any group of people who want to come but reluctant to foot the bus fare, we will offer this service for free for those living outside Punjab,” he said. At present, there are four buses already plying on the Golden Temple-railway station route and the inter-state bus terminus route.

Meanwhile, the sewa of ‘chhabbel has been volunteered by Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale.
