Mechanical department students of Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology have created synthesis gas by using stubble. The project has been created by Tarunpal Singh, Amritpal Singh, Mayur, Sarwan Kumar and Anmol Vohra.

“Under the process, the students after collecting stubble transferred it into air tight container. The air container tight was heated leading to creation of gas, which was purified,” said assistant professor Amandeep Singh, who is supervising the team. The gas can be used for cooking purpose. The students are also keen on using gas to run vehicles.

Providing an alternative use for stubble and to help in reducing pollution level due to the burning by farmers motivated the students to come up with gas.

Tarunpal Singh said, “Basically our aim is to reduce pollution. The pollution from burning of stubble has already become a big thing. So, I thought of using it for constructive purposes. This gas has multi-purpose uses.”

It takes minimum of 10 minutes to come up limited quantity of air. It took the students four months to complete the project. “We have also stored the gas for future usage,” added Singh.
