Sultana inaugurates GNDU fitness centre

AMRITSAR: Razia Sultana, Minister for Higher Education, inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Fitness Centre here on Friday in the student's centre of Guru Nanak Dev University.

Razia Sultana, Minister for Higher Education, inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Fitness Centre here on Friday in the student's centre of Guru Nanak Dev University.

The centre has been dedicated to the golden jubilee of Guru Nanak Dev University. A large number of students, faculty and employees were present.

Supporting the government move to regularise the service of protesting teachers, the minister of higher education, said, “The government has taken this move after consulting protesting teachers. No one has been wronged in this process.” She also hailed that gym shall drive away students and players from drugs.

Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu welcomed the chief guest and other guests. Prof Kamaljeet Singh, dean, academic affairs, Prof Karanjit Singh Kahlon, registrar, Prof SS Behl, dean, student welfare, was also present. Razia Sultana appreciated the university about sincere efforts for the benefit of students and others. She congratulated the VC for his innovative approach.

Sandhu said, “The world class fitness centre is fully air conditioned with highly modern machines which have been established with an approximate cost of rupees 1 crore covering an area of 3,000 sq ft in the university campus.”

He said, “The campus students had to go outside the university campus for their gym work out, which was expensive and far away from the university due to which students avoided gym activities. The gym will be available for students, faculty, employees and outsiders at a nominal fee.”

The cardio zone, strength zone and free exercise zone have been created in this gym along with commercial treadmill, skill mill, cross trainer, compact cable cross, leg press, hip abduction, high extension, doubles and other modern machines have been provided.

The gym will be housed in the building of the dean students’ welfare of the university. Three qualified trainers are appointed to provide proper training workout and attendant to taking care of the machines.

A workshop on awareness programme in association with NAAC was held in the varsity campus.
