Though Congress candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla defeated BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri, a glance at the data reveals that the BJP has gained in all five urban Assembly segments in terms of number of votes its candidates had got in the 2017 Assembly elections.

On the contrary, the number of votes polled in favour of all four seats contested by the SAD in the rural segment has further gone down.

Even the urban constituency, Amritsar South, contested by SAD candidate, has seen an increase in the number of votes as compared to 2017 elections. The Congress votes have gone down in all these five urban constituencies.

The steep fall has been seen in the Amritsar East constituency, represented by Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. In 2017, the Congress had got 60,477 votes, but it managed to get only 44,585 this time.

Even in the Central constituency, represented by Education Minister OP Soni, the number of Congress votes has decreased by 11,588. The party has however got more votes in Rajasani represented by Revenue Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria.
