Amritsar, December 6

Swasth Bharat Tandrust Punjab Yatra was given a warm welcome on reaching the holy city on Thursday.

A special event to receive the yatra was organised at Sri Ram Ashram School, where Sunil Dutti, MLA, along with Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai and other senior officials were present.

The aim of the yatra is to train food business operators regarding hygiene and quality and spread the message of “eat right” among the residents.

Before entering the city, the yatra coming from Batala made a halt at Kathunagal village where food business operators and residents attended the event.

Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai said the yatra had entered Punjab on December 2 and would leave from Tarn Taran on December 8.

He said the yatra would be accompanied by an audio-visual van and food testing lab which would enable residents to get their food items tested as it moves through various parts of city. District Health Officer-cum-Nodal Officer for the yatra, Dr Lakhbir Singh Baghowalia, said a ‘prabhat pheri’ would be organised on Friday morning and participants would spread the message of food safety.

“Three events — one each at Town Hall, Kabir Park and Ranjit Avenue market— would be organised where audio-visual messages would be aired. The message of Prime Minister on the issue would also be aired,” he said.

AC Misra, Joint Director, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), who is leading the yatra, said the message was well received by the people.
