A day after a youth was found murdered in Gurnam Nagar, falling under Division B police station, the police claimed to have cracked the case. It said raids were on to arrest the suspects.

Sukhbir Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Division B police station, said the police were on the verge of cracking the case. Cops have zeroed in on several suspects who are on the run.

The SHO said he had received the information that the deceased belonged to the Jhabal road area, but his family was yet to be traced.

According to the sources in the police, initial probe suggests that he was beaten to death by a group of persons after they suspected him to be a vehicle lifter. Panic gripped Mandir Wala Bazaar in Gurnam Nagar locality on Thursday morning when the body was spotted in a vacant plot. Initially, people thought he was a drug addict. Noticing no movement in the body, they went up to him to find him dead.

The Division B police and the CIA staff reached the spot for investigation. A probe indicated that the suspects could be from nearby areas as there was no sign of any vehicle near the spot. Later, the police zeroed in on several persons who had allegedly beaten him to death.

Accused on the run
