Two booked for carrying illegal weapon

AMRITSAR: The local police have booked two persons for carrying an illegal pistol. Though they managed to escape leaving their bike behind, the police recovered a pistol and bullets from the spot. Their bike skidded when they were trying to flee.

The local police have booked two persons for carrying an illegal pistol.

Though they managed to escape leaving their bike behind, the police recovered a pistol and bullets from the spot. Their bike skidded when they were trying to flee.

The suspects have been identified as Gurmilap Singh, alias Gopi Mahal, of Loharaka road area and Abhiraj Singh, alias Abhi Mahal.

Investigating officer Salwinder Singh said, “The police recovered an illegal pistol and 30 live cartridges from the spot. A naka was laid near Baba Darshan Singh Dera and the suspects were signalled to stop. However seeing the naka, the suspects immediately took a U-turn, but lost their control and fell down. By the time a police team reached the spot, they fled away.”

Besides a pistol and live cartridges, the police also recovered the driving licence of Gurmilap from the spot. He said they were ascertaining the owner of the motorcycle.

A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the suspects.

Criminal held with pistol

The Cantonment police on Friday claimed to have arrested a criminal with a .32 bore pistol. According to the police, he is already facing close to 20 criminal cases.

The suspect has been identified as Prahlad Kumar, alias Maja, a resident of Katra Karam Singh area.

According to cops, he remained associated with different gangsters and committed crimes. He was arrested from the Ramtirath Road area at a naka. He was brought on police remand in which he told the police that he bought the weapon from Uttar Pradesh at a price of Rs40,000.

The .32 bore pistol has inscription of made in USA. The police also found four bullets from the pistol.

Sanjiv Kumar, SHO, Cantonment police station, said he got bail in several cases.
