Voting begins for poll to Youth Cong posts

AMRITSAR: Elections to various posts of the Punjab Youth Congress and the District Youth Congress began on Wednesday with the voting witnessed at the Amritsar North and Central constituencies, which was held at the District Congress Committee (DCC) rural office and the DCC urban offices, respectively.

Elections to various posts of the Punjab Youth Congress and the District Youth Congress began on Wednesday with the voting witnessed at the Amritsar North and Central constituencies, which was held at the District Congress Committee (DCC) rural office and the DCC urban offices, respectively. Today was the first day of the three-day polling process.

While a total of 1,511 votes were polled in the North constituency, the Central constituency witnessed a polling of 836 votes. For the post of president, Aditya Dutti, son of Amritsar North MLA, is pitched against Rajiv Chahbra backed by Cabinet minister Om Parkash Soni’s group.

For Punjab Youth Congress general secretary posts, Dilraj Singh Sarkaria and Balpreet Singh are prominent contenders from the district. The Congress leaders said the elections were also being held for the post of Youth Congress in-charges of each assembly constituency.

A heavy police force was seen outside urban and rural offices as the election process started at 8 am. The election concluded at 3 pm. No untoward incident or clashes between different factions of the Youth Congress were reported from both the constituencies.

The election process in different constituencies would continue till December 6. While the results of the district-level posts would be announced on December 7, those of Punjab-level posts would be announced on December 8.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Chabra in a press conference in the evening alleged that his opponent had violated the model code of conduct and he asked the Indian Youth Congress to cancel his candidature. Chabra said he has video proof of senior leaders from the Amritsar north constituency standing outside the polling booth which he has sent to the election officials.“The model code of conduct had earlier made it clear that no senior leader would interfere in the Youth Congress elections,” he said. Chabra is contesting for the post of district president against Aditya dutti who is son of Amritsar North MLA Sunil Dutti.
