Amritsar: A woman died in road mishap in Joga Singh Wala village after a rashly driven car hit her scooter here on Friday.



Amritsar: A woman died in road mishap in Joga Singh Wala village after a “rashly driven” car hit her scooter here on Friday. The accused fled the scene with his car. The victim has been identified as Ranjit Kaur (38) of None village. She, along with her husband, was returning after paying obeisance at a shrine in Tarn Taran. Her husband Manjit Singh stated to the police that the scooter was hit by the car from behind near Joga Singh Wala village. She sustained severe injuries. Passersby came to their rescue and took them to the Civil Hospital in Tarn Taran. During treatment, she breathed her last, said the complainant. The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unknown car driver. TNS

Jail inmates held with mobile

Amritsar: In yet another seizure, Central Jail authorities have confiscated a mobile phone from two jail inmates, identified as Hardeep Singh, alias Sonu, of Bachiwind and Jugraj Snigh of Chicha village. A fresh case under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisons Act has been registered against them. Gian Singh, Assistant Superintendent, said the accused was having a conversation on his mobile when jail staff spotted him. TNS
