Woman ends life

AMRITSAR: Rupinder Kaur (30), a resident of Kammoke village, ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance here on Sunday.

Rupinder Kaur (30), a resident of Kammoke village, ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance here on Sunday.

The police have booked her husband and in-laws for allegedly forcing her to commit suicide. Those booked were identified as Surjit Singh, his mother Veer Kaur, father Balkar Singh, brother Soni Singh and his wife Sandeep Kaur. No arrest has been made so far.

Jasbir Singh of Bachade village said his niece Rupinder used to complain that she was being harassed and assaulted by her in-laws. He said he came to know about the suicide it from neighbours of Rupinder. He along with his cousin Gurjit reached there and found her lying on the varandah. Investigating officer Davinder Singh said that a case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC was registered against her husband Surjit Singh and her in-laws and further investigation was under way. — TNS
