Youth fired at, seven booked

AMRITSAR:Several persons, equipped with firearms, shot a youth leaving him seriously injured in Mahal village here on Tuesday.

Several persons, equipped with firearms, shot a youth leaving him seriously injured in Mahal village here on Tuesday. He has been admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where his condition is stated to be serious. Identified as Ashish Kumar, the victim has sustained bullet injuries on his legs and back.

Following his statement, the police have registered a case against seven persons. They have been identified as Cami Pehalwan, his brother Love, Pawan, Tidda, Yash, Baljinder Singh and Bittu Pehlwan, all residents of Navi Abadi.

Ashish informed the police that he has been residing at the residence of his sister in Mahal village for over a month. He said his friend Sonu came to meet him and they went to play cricket at the village government school’s playground. At around 4 pm, the accused came in two SUVs and started firing at him. He suffered bullet injuries on his legs and back. The accused later fled the scene.

DCP Mukhwinder Singh said the police had taken one person into custody who allegedly provided shelter to them. Raids were on to nab the accused. He said an old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident. The police also recovered one of the vehicles used in the crime.
