Staff of 108 ambulances on Wednesday suspended their work for 12 hours in protest at the Civil Hospital. The protest was headed by employee Bakshish Singh.
They said the protest was held as the management director of the Punjab Health System Corporation had assured of fulfilling their demands, but later, the authorities started sacking workers.
They threatened that if any worker was shifted or terminated then they would intensify their protest and the entire 108 ambulance service across the state would be shut for indefinite time.
They demanded that their duty should be reduced to eight hours from 12, they should be given increment for four years with interest, rule of equal work and equal pay should be implemented, salaries should be given on time, transfers should be cancelled and 36 employees should be reinstated.
