As many as 31 prisoners were released from the Central Jail, Bathinda, in view of their good behaviour on the occasion of Independence Day here on Wednesday.
Punjab Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa told these prisoners to make all efforts to become responsible citizens of society.
He said they were being released on this occasion so that they could rebuild their lives.
The minister also visited the women’s barrack where the women inmates had exhibited different items, such as bags and purses made by them. He also initiated a plantation drive by planting a sapling on the jail premises.
Actor Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi entertained the gathering with his performance. He appreciated the state government’s efforts for reforming the prisoners by involving them in different social activities.
Randhawa also inaugurated the stores of Markfed and Verka outside the jail premises. The jail inmates also presented a bhangra performance on the occasion.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included MLA Pritam Singh Kotbhai, ADGP (Jails) Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota, DC Praneet and SSP Dr Nanak Singh.
