Bathinda, October 16

The district unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest against a hike in power tariff, fuel and LPG prices at the Fire Brigade chowk here on Tuesday.

AAP MLA from Talwandi Sabo Prof Baljinder Kaur said the fuel prices, which were increasing regularly, had affected the budget of a common man.

She said the BJP formed the government in Centre on the issue of inflation and corruption.

The AAP MLA said the BJP had misled the people of the country and now, every section of society was affected due to their policies.

AAP district president Navdeep Jeeda said inflation had broken the backbone of the people as the Centre and state government had failed to provide any relief to residents.

He said they were trying to divert people’s attention from the core issues. The AAP leader said the people would taught them a lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Jeeda added that the Delhi Government had given relief to its residents by providing electricity at Rs2.5 per unit. He said besides, Delhi residents were getting free water. Jeeda said the Delhi Government had improved education and medical facilities, besides hiked the old-age pension amount.

Anil Thakur, vice-president of the AAP trade wing, said since the Congress had formed the government in the state, it had hiked power tariff for 11 times. He said it was shocking and surprising as the Congress promised the people that it would provide cheap electrify after coming to power.

Lashing out at Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, he said during the elections, he used to make tall claims to reviving the industry in the state, but till date, he had failed to come up with any policy for reviving it.

The AAP leader threatened to intensify their protest in the upcoming days, if people did not get any relief from the increasing fuel and LPG prices, along with power tariff.
