Alert sounded as dengue cases rise in Kotkapura

With a steep rise in the number of dengue cases in Kotkapura, the district administration and health authorities have sounded an alert and are asking the residents in the town to not allow breeding of mosquitoes larvae in their adjoining residential and commercial areas in the stagnated water.

As the total number of dengue cases in Kotkapura has already risen to 181, the Health Department has now started an intensive campaign in the area as the fever cases are reported to be more in this area due to high breeding of mosquitoes larvae in the stagnant and accumulated rainwater but the main focus of the department is to control the multiplication of dengue larvae.

During the inspection of various private and public places, the health department authorities in Kotkapura has detected dengue larvae from more than 200 places and these places include the police station, municipality office and the schools where the number of high numbers of visitors is exposing them to the danger of dengue and further spreading of its larvae.

After making inspection of over 500 places in Kotkapura, the health department has served notice on 176 persons for their negligence in not keeping a check on the stagnating water around their houses and commercial establishments as it helped in breeding of dengue larvae.

In Faridkot also, after inspection of 450 places in search of dengue larva, the department has served notices on 129 persons.

Dr Kamaldeep Kaur, district epaidemiologist officer, said though the situation is under control but the high number of dengue patients in Kotkapura is a worrisome trend. In Faridkot, only 9 dengue cases have been reported so far.

She said the dengue larvae mainly breed on fresh water but the stagnated rainwater might increase the malaria and other fever cases.

Every dengue patient, either it is in private clinic or government hospital in the district, is recorded with the health department. But sources said besides 181 dengue cases, there are many other patients who are getting the treatment outside Faridkot.
