Bathinda, December 9

The Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) has formulated a plan to do the patch work on the main roads and internal streets in the city at a cost of Rs 90.50 lakh.

The MCB has evolved two proposals. Under one of the proposals, patch work of main roads and internal streets in zone number 1,2,7 and 8 would be conducted at a cost of Rs 48 lakh. In the second proposal, patch work would be conducted in zone number 3,4,5 and 6 at a cost of Rs 44.50 lakh.

Both these proposals would be tabled for approval in the coming General House meeting and after getting the nod, work on this would start.

It is pertinent to mention that the project would give big relief to the commuters who are facing a huge problem due to bad roads and potholes on the roads which require urgent repair.

Earlier, in 2016, under the Rs 73-crore project, various roads were laid, but within a year, most of these roads were damaged. Even the pick-and-choose policy in laying or repairing roads affected the project and city residents could not get the benefit which they had hoped for if all the roads were laid under the project. Residents are hoping that the project would be implemented effectively on the roads on merit basis.

Shikhar, a city resident, said, “Internal roads, most of which are in a bad condition, are dangerous for vehicles. We have to drive slowly and cannot evade potholes. The authorities concerned seem to have adopted an apathetic attitude or maybe they are waiting for a mishap to take place to spur them to do something concrete in this regard. The damaged road should be repaired at the earliest.”

Another resident, Gian Chand Bansal, said, “Driving has become an ordeal for the residents as many roads in the city are in a poor condition and these require immediate repair.”
