Members of the Bathinda unit of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee staged a protest at Railway Colony against the authorities for not utilisting a not-in-use water tank. They said dirty water accumulated in the tank was a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

District Congress Committee president (urban) Arun Wadhawan, along with other Congress workers and residents, staged the protest and raised slogans against the authorities.

The water storage tank (number 3) at Railway Colony, which is not in use for a long time, has become a grave problem for residents.

The protesters said dirty water had accumulated and shrubs had overgrown around the area where snakes and scorpions have made their home.

Besides, mosquitoes have bred in huge numbers that enter residents’ houses. Owing to dirty water accumulation, residents also fall prey to various diseases.

The protesters said the matter was brought to the notice of the authorities on numerous occasions, but to no avail. They demanded that either the water storage tank must be removed or it must be filled with clean water or it can also be turned into a park for kids. They threatened to intensify their agitation in the coming days if their demands were not met.
