Bathinda, August 12

Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy Development and Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu inaugurated the newly constructed building of a temple at the Valmiki dharamshala at Virk Khurd village here on Sunday. Sidhu also announced Rs 2 lakh for the dharamshala.

While addressing a gathering in the village, Sidhu appreciated Gurcharan Singh Virk, a resident of the village, for donating Rs 1.5 lakh to the dharamshala for construction work.

Divulging details of the schemes initiated by his department, the minister said in the coming days, the department would come up with a new plan with the help of the US to address the issue of the stray cattle menace. He said under the plan, cows of a specific breed would only give birth to a calf.

The minister said the cost of the project was Rs 50 crore and he would consult the Chief Minister in this regard.

He said the Animal Husbandry Department was making efforts to protect the local breed of cows and buffaloes from diseases and people should take help from government schemes.

Sidhu instructed officials of his department to raise an awareness of the schemes among villagers by installing boards in villages or by holding camps.
