Bathinda, July 11
The Mansa administration has initiated a drive to check the use of plastic carry bags.
In a release issued on Wednesday, Mansa SDM Abhijeet Kaplish said the task of checking the sale of plastic carry bags in shops had been assigned to a team of officials from various departments.
“We have divided the district into different zones and the drive is being monitored on a daily basis. The government employees or officials visiting shops fill a standard proforma in which the shopkeeper’s name and whether he is selling the plastic bags or not are also mentioned,” added Kaplish.
The SDM said the proforma was submitted with the administration. “We are leaving no stone unturned to completely eliminate the use of the plastic bags. Now, we are in the second phase of the project under which these bags are being confiscated,” the SDM said.
He said on Wednesday, 22 shops were covered and 2.3 kg of plastic carry bags were confiscated. “As the mission has started gaining momentum, people have now come forward to extend every possible help to the officials. Now, a large number of shopkeepers have promised not to give plastic carry bags to their customers,” he disclosed.— TNS
