Drug-addict hangs self, three booked

MUKTSAR: The Muktsar (Sadar) police have booked three persons, including an owner of a private de-addiction centre, after an addict admitted there allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan on Thursday.

The Muktsar (Sadar) police have booked three persons, including an owner of a private de-addiction centre, after an addict admitted there allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan on Thursday.

According to the FIR, Sukhchain Singh, brother of deceased Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Bathinda Road here, had gone to meet the latter at the de-addiction centre some days ago, where Gurwinder allegedly told him that the centre staff was torturing him. “When Sukhchain asked the de-addiction centre staff to release his brother, they demanded Rs55,000 as charges. Later, Gurwinder committed suicide,” stated the FIR.

On the basis of statement of deceased’s brother, the police have booked Manpreet Singh, owner of Ek Prayas De-addiction Centre, Deepak Kumar and Mandeep Singh.
