Bathinda, August 13
The incident of girl students going out of hostel without the consent of the parents at Government Senior Secondary School, Mandi Kalan village, has snowballed as villagers on Monday staged a protest outside the main gate of the school.
The protesters raised slogans against the Education Department, state government and school management.
While talking to mediapersons, Jagjit Singh, former municipal committee president, said on August 10 around 9 pm, a villager called up at the hostel in Government Girls Senior Secondary School at Mandi Kalan village to talk to her relative, who is studying in Class X here. The hostel warden told her that the girls’ parents had taken her along on that day.
Thereafter, she called the parents of the student, who told her that they went to the school that day to meet her and returned, but the girl was at the hostel.
Suspecting something suspicious, she, along with her husband and villagers, reached the hostel. On checking, it was found that the student was not at the hostel.
When they asked, the cook working there claimed that the girl was at her house.
Ballainwali police station SHO Jai Singh said they had received a complaint regarding missing of a girl from the hostel a few days ago. Now, Deputy DEO (Secondary) is conducting a probe in the incident and further action would be taken as per the report, he added.
Repeated attempts were made to contact Deputy DEO Bhupinder Kaur, but she remained unavailable.
