Bathinda, February 18

Two cars, four motorcycles and one active scooter have been stolen in the city in the past three days.

Gangs have been striking at vehicles parked on the roads. They smash the car windows and flee with valuables.

As many as two cases of car theft were registered on Sunday. Bikramjit Singh, a resident of North Estate area, lodged a complaint that he had parked his Zen car outside his house, but some unidentified persons stole it.

In a similar incident, Inderjit Singh, a resident of Abohar, had also lodged a complaint that some unidentified persons stole his car from outside Pragma Hospital on the Bhatti road in the city.

In other incidents, unidentified persons smashed the window glass of cars and fled with valuable items at the Amrik Singh road and Tinkoni area in the city on Saturday night.

Amit Diwan Sharma, who works in a finance company and a resident of Paras Ram Nagar, said he had gone to purchase some grocery items from a shop near HDFC ATM at Tinkoni Chowk.

He had parked his car outside the ATM. He left his laptop bag also carrying his wallet and other important documents.

When he returned from the shop after five minutes, he saw the window glass of his car broken and laptop along with other items were missing from the car.

He immediately informed the Kotwali police, who started a probe. In CCTV footage, it has come out that a 10-year-old child had stolen these items from the car.

In another incident, Mahesh Bansal, a bank manager and a resident of Basant Vihar, said he had gone to the Amrik Singh road on Saturday for some work.

He had parked his car near Annapurna Mandir but after sometime when he came back, he found that the rear seat window glass had been broken and a bag carrying documents and a tiffin had been missing.

He also stated that some of the missing material from his car was recovered near the spot on Sunday morning, which had been thrown by miscreants.

On Friday, four motorcycles and two Activa scooters were stolen in the city. The motorcycles were stolen from Liberty Chowk, Shakti Nagar, Bibiwala Chowk, Thandi Sadak and from the gurdwara at Talwandi Sabo. Two Activa scooters were stolen from Tinkoni and Ajit roads.

A surprising aspect which has come to light is that the police are registering vehicle theft cases jointly by clubbing two-three incidents in a single FIR.
