Bathinda: Former minister Charanji Lal Garg has staked claim to the Congress ticket in the coming Lok Sabha elections. As per a release issued here on Monday, Garg said he met PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar during his visit on Sunday and clearly told him that Bathinda had always been meted injustice, whether it be Lok Sabha or Assembly elections. “I told him that the constituency has always got parachute candidates, which was one of the reasons that the party suffered losses in the last Lok Sabha elections. People want a leader whom they can approach anytime. Leave alone meeting the parachute leaders, one even finds it difficult to trace them,” he said. Garg said Jakhar assured that they would consider his suggestion. TNS

Phone seized from jail inmate

Bathinda: The police have recovered a mobile phone from a jail inmate during checking at the Central Jail. A case has been registered at the Cantonment police station and the police have started investigation into the matter. ASI Rajpal said the accused had been identified as Arshdeep Singh of Har Raipur village. The police have registered a case on the complaint of assistant superintendent of the jail. In his statement, he has stated that he had received information that Arshdeep, who is in prison in an alleged murder case, is using mobile phone. When a check was conducted in block number 4 of barrack number 4, a mobile phone, a SIM card and battery were recovered from the accused. The accused will be produced in the court on Tuesday. TNS

3 BFGI students get jobs   

Bathinda: Two MBA and one MCom students of Baba Farid Group of Institutions (BFGI) got placement in Axis Bank as assistant manager at an annual salary package of Rs 3.17 lakh. Those selected are Amanjeet Singh Bhandari (MCom) and Amanjot Singh and Manpreet Kaur (MBA). The recruitment process of Axis Bank included an online test followed by personal interview. TNS

BCA students bring laurels 

Bathinda: BCA students (semester V) of DAV College have done well in the examination conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala. Mohit Kanwar stood first in the college by securing 75.71 per cent marks. Besides, four students scored above 70 per cent marks, 11 between 60 and 70 per cent marks, six between 50 and 60 per cent marks and none of the students scored below 50 per cent marks in the BCA (semester V) examination. College principal Dr Sanjeev Sharma congratulated the students and staff for the excellent results. TNS

BBA students shine in exams

Bathinda: Students of BBA (sixth semester) of SSD College of Professional Studies, Bhokhra, have brought laurels to the college by performing well in the examinations conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala. Amandeep got the first position by securing 91.2 per cent marks. Besides, Arshdeep Kaur and Amandeep Kaur secured the second position by securing 90.8 per cent marks each followed by Gursimran who bagged the third position by securing 90 per cent marks. TNS
